Responsibilities

The manager will lead the Performance Materials Division's efforts in strategic growth initiatives. Position works on both strategic and tactical levels with cross function team to identify programs and new initiatives that will deliver repeatable and sustainable growth for the business. Focus on value creation to find competitive advantages and customer satisfaction to create a loyal and repeating client base. Strong emphasis on developing in the automotive, wind and aerospace industries on a global basis. Polymer Science or Materials Engineering background needed and advanced materials experience is a plus.


  • Understanding of the market conditions and end use drivers in the polymer and advanced materials market segment. The understanding includes regulatory requirements, related technologies and needs of customers. Identifies opportunities to better serve markets, customers and grow business. Creates business plan and go-to-market plan to capture the opportunities, and mobilizes internal resources to launch and ramp up new services to meet execution plan.

  • Represents Performance Materials Division in related industry associations and trade associations in the industry to collect market intelligence and thought leadership.

  • Establishes relationship with key customers to gain their trust, and identifies and nurtures UL advocates in each of the key customers to speak for UL.

  • Explores new geographic markets by conducting environmental scanning and supports decision making of whether UL should enter into the new markets and how to enter.

  • Develops marketing and external communications plan for the segment, and work with internal marketing resources to execute the plan.

  • Motivates and trains sales resources in various regions to make them more focused on composite materials, specifically automotive and aerospace segment, while enhancing their confidence in selling these PM services.

  • Works with internal and external resources for achieving short term order and revenue targets.

  • Provides management team with short-term forecast for current year, as well as participates in the yearly budgeting exercise by providing prospective about revenue and expenses for coming year.


Qualifications

A degree holder with at least five years of commercial and product development experience in the polymer materials or advanced materials industry. Composite materials experience and MBA preferred.

  • Have a broad knowledge of performance materials products, their trends and their demand drivers.
  • Automotive, Wind and/or Aerospace industry experience a plus
  • Possesses the business savvy to make sound and quick business decisions in an ambitious environment

  • Ability to get things done through internal resources without reporting relationship
