Sprague is looking for a Business Intelligence (BI) & Data Analyst to join our team supporting the company-wide implementation of Data Management and Analytics. We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate with excellent communication skills who thrives on challenges and is excited about the idea of working in a high-growth, fast-paced organization in the energy sector. The Business Intelligence & Data Analyst will collaborate with business unit leaders and subject matter experts across the company. Additionally, they will present project results, analytical findings, and actionable insights to the management team to receive feedback and inform strategic decisions.
This position will be based out of Sprague’s Portsmouth, NH office. (Some level of hybrid work can be considered). Local, New England area candidates preferred.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest and academic background in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, and Data Science with multidisciplinary skills across Business, Economics, Finance, and Statistical analysis. Additionally, the ideal candidate should be eager to address data and industry related challenges to increase reporting quality and capability.
The successful candidate will develop and apply skills in business intelligence, data visualization, data modeling, and data management. They will also work on data process automation, data governance, and data solutions architecture, with on-premises and cloud environments. Additionally, the candidate will gain experience in other business and data analytics areas while supporting energy industry professionals and contributing to the goals of the Sprague Retail Energy business unit.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and deliver data-driven solutions.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize BI reports, dashboards, and KPIs to support business decision-making.
- Assist in the creation of data models, metadata layers, data markets, and related catalogs. Support the development and maintenance of data pipelines and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document business requirements for BI solutions.
- Develop and manage data management scripts, code version controls, and catalogs.
- Identify and implement process improvements for data management and analytics.
- Support business requirements and data architecture solutions related to data and BI.
- Automate repetitive business processes using BI and data tools.
- Provide data-driven insights and communicate findings and insights through visualizations and reports.

Qualified candidates for this role will have the following:
- Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Business, Statistics, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Power BI, Tableau, QuickSight, etc. Experience creating and maintaining dashboards, visualizations, and KPIs.
- Programming and development experience in Python, SQL, GitHub, etc.
- Strong drive to learn and develop a career in the energy sector. Enthusiasm for learning and professional growth.
- Familiarity with SQL and database management.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, data management, data layers, and data schemas.
- Some knowledge of cloud BI and data analytics environments (AWS, Azure, etc.). Experience in developing data and business analytics in AWS is a plus.
- Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to solve problems, conduct research as needed, and see projects through to fruition.
- Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in the energy industry, including energy sustainability and transition topics.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality BI solutions.
- Adherence to high standards of ethics and respect for individuals and the work environment.
