The Electrical Technician is responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment in the power plant facility. The Electrical Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection, repair, testing, calibration, installation and removal of all electrical power plant equipment and systems. The Electrician will be called upon to support the Instrument and Controls Technician as schedule and workload allows and will be expected to support the plant, as requested by the Operations and Maintenance Manager.
Major Duties / Responsibilities:
- Monitor facility electrical process and proper operation. This would include any equipment with 120 volt or higher, electrical components.
- Troubleshoot problems associated with electrical systems components.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on facility electrical equipment to include variable frequency drives, motors, starters, HV and MV switchgear, transformers, etc.
- Maintain preventative maintenance records for electrical equipment.
- Maintain inventory control of electrical spare parts.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating outside contractor work on electrical equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on process controls equipment that includes electro pneumatic positioners, control valves and transmitters that have power inputs of 120 volts and higher
- Demonstrate proficiency with common test instruments to include the Fluke diagnostic equipment Megger, Signal Generator, Amprobes, HiPot testing, etc.
- Demonstrate proficiency in reading electrical schematics and diagrams.
- Participate in company safety training.
- Installing new electrical equipment and systems for plant modifications and improvements or supervise Electrical contractors contracted for site work.
- Perform Qualify control oversite of Electrical contract work.
- Coordinate with Plant Management to maintain “Qualified Man” certifications for all Arc Flash related activities and testing.
- Maintain the inspection records and applicable replacement of all Arc Flash PPE as well as other Electrical PPE and tooling.
- Maintain and coordinate all protective relay testing, maintenance and troubleshooting as required
Education / Experience / Skill Requirements:
- High School Graduate
- Graduation from an accredited Electrical Technician Program, and electrical degree program or five years of work experience as a technician in a related industry.
- A current Electrician’s Journeyman or Masters license is a plus.
- Experience in working with voltage of 4160 up to High voltage levels

- Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
- Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and can work without direct supervision.
- Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
- Work within and insure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
- Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
- Basic data entry/computer skills
- Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all the business challenges.

- Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
- Work with hazardous materials may be required.
- Requires extended working hours, varied shifts or 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
- Includes working indoors and outdoors.
- Includes working with high temperature liquid and high voltage equipment.
