Purpose: To provide a clean and sanitized environment for Caron staff, clients and visitors.

At Caron, our Housekeeping Techs are dedicated to their craft with high standards for cleanliness, health, and safety. The ideal person for this job is professional and friendly. They should have a working knowledge of cleaning products, processes, and equipment and the willingness to learn.

Our Housekeeping Techs do far more than just keep things tidy. Often interacting with both patients and staff, they are essential figures in not only maintaining our space, but upholding our community. For many on our Housekeeping staff, this position is a jumping-off point for a long and rewarding career here at Caron.

DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the cleanliness of all areas assigned by the Supervisor of Environmental Services.  This will include; patient rooms, restrooms, offices, lounges and will consist of vacuuming, cleaning vents, walls, floors, lights etc.  This will require working at various sites throughout the campus.
  • Launder linens daily or as needed.
  • Attend and participate in educational programs and staff meetings as required.
  • Maintain and ensure a safe and secure environment by following safety procedures. Report safety hazards, accidents/incidents and broken equipment to Maintenance or Environmental Services Supervisor.
  • The ability to work beyond normal hours and weekends may be necessary.

 If cross-trained

  • Responsible for maintaining the stripping and waxing of all tile floors, carpet cleaning and spot cleaning of all carpets.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the floor equipment and delivery carts.
  • Maintain storage closets, delivering of supplies, shoveling snow and dispose of waste in accordance with established policy & procedures.

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

1. Must be able to stoop, bend, push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs. as necessary to perform required cleaning tasks.

2. Must be able to work around odors, chemicals and extreme temperatures.

3. Must be able to climb various sets of steps and work off of a 5-ft. stepladder. If cross-trained

4. Must be able to handle and/or lift a minimum of 100 lbs as necessary to perform required tasks. (This only applies to numbers 7&8 in the Duties and Responsibilities category.)

Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

2. One-year experience in institutional Environmental Services would be helpful but is not required. 3. Must possess a PA driver’s license.

4. If in recovery, one year of continuous sobriety preferred.

5. One-year experience in an institutional housekeeping/janitorial position is preferred. If less then a year’s experience new staff will serve a six month probationary period before pay increase. (This only applies to numbers 7&8 in the Duties and Responsibilities category.)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Knowledge of potential safety hazards of using equipment.

2. Knowledge of universal precautions and blood born pathogens.

3. Knowledge of laundry and housekeeping skills.

4. Interact effectively with staff, patients and supervisor.

5. Working beyond normal hours and weekends may be necessary. If cross-trained

6. Skills of stripping, waxing, buffing floors, spot cleaning and carpet cleaning.
