The Operations Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for driving the strategic vision and operational excellence of the Waymo partnership, as well as in the fast-growing AutoNation Mobile Service. You will be instrumental in developing and executing comprehensive operations and training plans, overseeing field operations, and managing a high-performing service delivery team. Your focus will be on optimizing service efficiency, growing team capabilities, and ensuring customer satisfaction in a dynamic and evolving environment.

Job Description:

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee and optimize operational performance at multiple Waymo sites (Los Angeles, CA; Phoenix, AZ; San Francisco, CA), ensuring alignment with AutoNation's strategic goals. Manage the day-to-day operations of AutoNation Mobile Service in your territory, ensuring the effective execution of services.

  • Team Development: Develop and execute a plan for hiring, training, and developing a skilled workforce of service technicians. Lead and grow teams, including fleet managers, team leaders, service technicians, and service advisors, to meet and exceed operational targets.

  • Performance Management: Establish and monitor key performance metrics and reporting systems to provide visibility into service delivery, program performance, and operational efficiency. Conduct daily stand-ups, manage schedules, and leverage HR systems to enhance workforce efficiency.

  • Fleet and Infrastructure Management: Develop and execute standard operating procedures for fleet services, enhance workshop and stocking infrastructure, and identify suitable operational bases for parking and stocking service vans.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with the fleet sales team, parts, and dispatch central teams to optimize market coverage, enhance service growth, and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for operational improvements and implement optimization measures across scheduling, dispatch, service execution, and customer interactions. Proactively address service-related issues and recommend solutions.

  • Strategic Execution: Collaborate with senior leadership with both Waymo and AutoNation to present plans and operating reports. Shape the growth and evolution of the operations team, adapting the scope of the role as the business needs change.

  • Field Operations: Perform field visits to coach and motivate teams, ensure alignment with strategic goals, and address operational challenges. Maintain strong communication with sales and account management teams.

  • Travel: Ability to travel as needed to manage operations across different locations

Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • 8+ years in automotive repair and maintenance, including extensive knowledge of electric vehicles

  • Experience leading and developing medium-to large teams of service technicians (10 or more people) that consistently meet and exceed daily, weekly, and monthly targets

  • Background as both a “doer” (technician), and a “teacher” (trainer)

  • Ability to develop operational and training plans, including metrics and goals, followed by a proven history of inspiring teams to hit those targets

  • Ability to identify areas of opportunity and continuously improve processes, and comfortable using data to do so

  • Program leadership and change management experience

  • Experience with developing and presenting plans and operating reports to senior executives

  • Balance attention to detail with swift execution - we need to do things quickly, and we need to do them well

  • Master technician and EV certifications

  • Very comfortable with MS Office tools, especially Excel for data analysis

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Prior experience in automotive aftersales, or at a large fleet operator, marketplace, or mobility tech platform

  • SQL skills also a plus
