WIC Program Nutritionist provides the full range of WIC nutrition services to applicants and participants (infants, children, prenatal and postpartum women, both breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding) under the supervision of the Senior Nutritionist.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conducts dietary evaluation of all categories of WIC participants.
- Nutrition Assessment and counseling are documented completely and accurately.
- Determines nutritional risk factors according to federal guidelines.
- Prescribes appropriate food package based on nutritional risk factors.
- Provides nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education.
- Offers referrals to additional appropriate services available through EBNHC and/or other community agencies.
- Bloodwork procedures for collecting and assessing blood work values are followed appropriately.
- Assists Senior Nutritionist with training of the paraprofessional Nutrition Assistant staff in completion of required activities and performance skills necessary to achieve CPAI or CPAII status.
- Ongoing supervision and education of Nutrition Assistant staff through review and co-signing charts for purposes of Quality Assurance required by Federal/State standards.
- Contributes to WIC/Primary Care coordinated services to prenatal clients through voluntary participation and facilitation of Breastfeeding education module of Birth Classes at EBNHC.
- Serves a Co-Coordinator of East Boston WIC’s Immunization Project.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- B.S. in Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Education.
- Demonstrated leadership and decision making capability.
- Sensitivity to needs of participant population.
- Available to work evening hours, and at least 1 Saturday per month.
- Bicultural/bilingual skills very desirable.
