Painter/Utility Maintenance Worker
Full-time, twelve-month Painter/Utility Worker position reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor. Performs activities related to painting and maintenance services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares surfaces prior to painting and hand brushes, roll paints, or spray paints building, areas, equipment, furniture, and other surfaces.
Determines type and kind of materials needed, time allowance between coats and the number of coats required, adequacy of surface preparation and areas to be painted.
Applies primer, sealer and undercoats to office interiors and applies finish and/or protective coats to walls and ceilings.
Thins material to proper consistency and mixes and matches paints to surface being painted.
Performs simple checks and procedures to defective equipment and takes corrective actions.
Transports tools and equipment to and from job or work sites.
Picks up and delivers equipment for repair; picks up parts for repair.
Maintain and cleans tools, equipment, and work areas.
Performs and documents routine maintenance and safety inspections.
Load and unload trucks in moving furniture, equipment, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Exertive: Significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward postures and work positions: sustained postures and work positions; sustained activities require strength. Frequent lifting (30 – 50 lbs.). Some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity is limited. Working from aerial lifts, ladders and scaffolding of all types.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of painting.
Knowledge of paints, colors, and mixing of colors.
Knowledge of surface preparations, primers, sealers, undercoats and thinners.
Knowledge of the equipment used in painting.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must have valid driver’s license.
Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:
High school/GED preferred.
Two years’ experience in performing work related to building maintenance.
Completion of standard apprenticeship in the painting trade.
Minimal starting pay is $28,400 annually ($14.57 per hour). With additional experience pay increases to a maximum of $34,100.
