Portfolio Manager - Builder Finance

The bank's Builder Finance team is headquartered in Houston and works with home builders throughout the United States.  The Portfolio Manager works with the team’s Relationship Managers to evaluate and monitor the loan portfolio as well as assist in underwriting and structuring all new credit facilities. 


  • Responsible for supporting Relationship Managers (RMs) with day-to-day management of existing portfolio 
  • Responsible for working with Underwriting Team on new credit packages and personally preparing packages for renewals, which includes project and financial statement analysis, loan profitability and narrative on the project, borrowers and guarantors 
  • Perform amendments as necessary on existing credits.  Track net sales, breakeven, and closings.  Monitor trade payables and industry trends to opine on collateral acceptance
  • Ongoing review/monitoring of loan portfolio to detect any deteriorating financial trends and provide notification to RMs of any identified negative trends or violations to loan agreement 
  • Coordinate transactions with bank customers and prospects, third party consultants, such as project inspectors, appraisers, environmental firm staff, attorneys, and engineers 
  • Accompany RMs on site visits to inspect projects and property as required 
  • Responsible for annual relationship reviews, which includes the timely requisitioning and review of all third party appraisal and appraisal review reports to remain in compliance with all bank and regulatory guidelines                                               
  • Assist RMs in reviewing and responding to loan and guarantor questions presented by bank’s third party loan review group, auditors and bank regulators 
  • Assist Department Manager in loan forecasting for annual budget and portfolio strategy purposes as needed


  • 3-5 years experience in a commercial bank; a background in commercial or residential real estate is preferred
  • Bachelors degree in finance or accounting preferred 
  • Prior experience in financial and credit analysis as it relates to evaluating financial strength and weaknesses of borrowers, guarantors, and various types of commercial income producing market risk real estate assets; prior underwriting experience preferred 
  • Prior experience with treasury products and services preferred
  • Must be able to interface with customers and top level management and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Strong attention to detail and superior customer service skills with an attitude to work as a team member 
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to prioritize across multiple types of tasks.
