How will you make an impact in this role?

American Express is looking for Senior Engineers to contribute to the company’s focus on building products, like @Work, to support our large and global corporate clients.

@Work helps our clients manage their Corporate Card and Corporate Purchasing Card programs more efficiently online. From performing everyday administrative tasks and account maintenance, to accessing reports and utilizing reconciliation solutions, @Work enables fast, efficient and effective program management resulting in time and cost savings for our clients.

Scope of Impact/Influence:

  • Leads and mentors teams of engineers through ongoing development efforts.
  • Ensures engineers adhere to team standards.
  • Accountable for accurate completion and quality of all documentation and work produced by engineering team.
  • Accountable for delivering a quality product that meets the customers’ needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Software Development
  • Perform technical aspects of software development.
  • Function as a leader on a software engineering team by contributing to software builds through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation).
  • Lead code reviews and automated testing.
  • Debug software components and identify code defects for remediation.
  • Leads the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across test, integration, and production environments.
  • Empower teams to automate deployments in test or production environments.
  • Empower teams to automatically scale applications based on demand projections.
  • Ensure team adheres to security and regulatory best practices.

Leadership:

  • Takes accountability for the success of the team achieving their goals
  • Drives the team’s strategy and prioritizes initiatives
  • Influence team members by challenging status quo, demonstrating risk taking, and implementing creative ideas
  • Be a productivity multiplier for your team by analyzing your workflow and contributing to enable the team to be more effective, productive, and demonstrating faster and stronger results
  • Mentor and guide team members to success within the team

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Able to communicate complex data structures and associated components
  • Designs, codes, tests, maintains, and documents application components
  • Lead reviews of colleagues' work
  • Defines test conditions based on the functional and non-functional requirements provided
  • Has deep understanding of the core tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s)
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure, technologies, and components
  • Able to assess and interview team members to identify and develop talent
  • Making impactful changes by influencing leadership and making timely decisions
  • Monitors system performance and availability and improves software quality through root cause analysis
  • Proven track record to influence technological growth across teams

Minimum Qualifications:

6+ years of software development experience in a professional environment and/or comparable experience such as:

  • Wide breath of engineering experience
  • Proven experience leading teams of engineers
  • Hands-on expertise with application design, software development, and automated testing
  • Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related experience required; advanced degree preferred
  • 3+ years React
  • 3+ years Java

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits

The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we’ll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
