Position Summary
The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Senior Gallery Associate.
Assist the Curator of New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art in the general operation of the gallery and expand the educational outreach of the Gallery.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist with educational outreach, grant research, and writing to support the advancement of the gallery.
- Select artwork for the consignment gallery and oversee all sales activities and related paperwork.
- Interact with public in both the consignment gallery and main exhibition space.
- Correspond with and contract consignment gallery artists.
- Supervise student workers and gallery volunteers.
- Assist in planning and installation of revolving gallery exhibitions.
- Assist in the planning, design, production, and distribution of exhibit and gallery promotional and printed materials.
- Take the lead, with Curator's guidance, on exhibitions in the BG (Back Gallery) Project Space.
- Assist in implementation of general gallery programs.
- Assist with maintaining gallery social media accounts.
- Assist with Community Engagement activities and events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in art, business, or related field.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of microcomputers, word processing, spreadsheets, database, and electronic mail software.
- Valid driver’s license or other means of reliable transportation.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Retail and display experience, along with knowledge of framing and art conservation methods.
- Two years of professional art gallery experience.
Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements
- Standard work hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Frequent irregular or extended hours may be necessary to meet business needs including evenings and weekends.
- Occasional travel may be required.
