The Department of Communication, Media and Theater Arts is seeking a full time, tenure track faculty member to join the Theater Program, contributing to both academic coursework and Theater Program productions on campus. 

The Theater Program provides students with foundational training and study in theater arts, including acting, technical theater, theater history, voice, and movement. The concentration offers production opportunities and course work that provides students with the ability to express themselves through performance and the skills necessary to translate theatrical literature into onstage production elements. Theater is an interdisciplinary program that will prepare students for transfer to a four-year college or for entry-level positions in semi-professional and/or professional theaters. 

As part of the college’s efforts to ensure equitable outcomes for all HCC students, candidates must bring a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in their teaching practice, as well as a record of excellence in college-level instruction and production work.  In addition to teaching experience, candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to student-centered advising and an interest in actively engaging with the communities HCC serves.  

Although hybrid and online teaching options may be available, this position will require a substantial amount of in-person, on-campus work with students, faculty, and community partners. 

  • Teach a full-time load of courses focused on theater performance, including Acting, Introduction to Theater, Playscript Analysis, and Movement for Actors, Voice and Diction.
  • Direct annually and engage with pre-production needs. 
  • Remain knowledgeable about developments and trends in the field.
  • Provide acting preparation for student actors attending the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF).
  • Provide support and advising for students’ self-produced work.
  • Support annual curriculum review and participate in departmental assessment to ensure that the coursework in the discipline fulfills departmental outcomes and meets students’ needs.
  • Contribute to department efforts to recruit and retain students.
  • Collaborate with CMTA and performing arts faculty on campus-wide projects and initiatives.
  • Provide academic advising suited to students’ career and transfer goals.
  • Meet with and assist students during office hours.
  • Participate in shared governance committees, as well as other committees, task forces, and sub-committees.
  • Provide college service as required by the MCCC contract.

REQUIRED:  

  • Master’s Degree in Theater or related field completed by August 15, 2025.
  • Minimum two (2) years of teaching Theater at the college level as instructor of record.
  • Experience directing. 
  • Experience working successfully with a diverse student body.
  • Demonstrated excellent teaching skills, including varied pedagogical strategies.
  • Experience with culturally responsive pedagogies.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on projects and initiatives.
NOTE:  A teaching demonstration will be a required part of the interview process.

PREFERRED: 
  • A record of teaching excellence in Theater at a community college or at the first year/sophomore college level.
  • Experience in one or more of the following content areas: Costume Construction, Musical Theater, Choreography, Voice, and Stage Combat.
  • Experience directing either in a collegiate or professional setting, or both.

Full-time, tenure-track MCCC/MTA position

Salary:  Minimum $54,820-$64,159 (subject to salary increase effective January 1, 2025).  Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
