Position Summary
The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Assistant Professor of Art with a specialty in sculpture and woodworking. Appointment will begin August 2025.
Duties/Responsibilities
The sculpture/woodworking area at the University of Southern Indiana has a strong tradition of achievement and excellence; the ideal candidate will foster and develop this important part of the art program. They must be able to teach all levels of sculpture, including woodworking, metals, and foundry, as well as 3-dimensional design. They will advise students, serve on committees, contribute to program development, and participate in community outreach. Additional responsibilities include supervising a large, well-equipped woodworking studio and separate metals studio with welding and foundry, overseeing supply and materials budgets for these areas, and coordinating area needs with other faculty members.
Required Knowledge and Skills
A terminal degree in an art studio related field (MFA or equivalent). Required degrees must be completed before start date. Active, creative research in sculpture or woodworking as demonstrated by a record of regional and national peer-reviewed exhibitions (juried or invitational exhibitions).
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
A successful record of teaching university courses in studio art, experience beyond graduate teaching is preferred. Familiarity with common sculpture and woodworking equipment and tools, an understanding and working knowledge of digital fabrication tools, which could include 3-D printers, CNC routers and laser cutters, and operating software.

The Art & Design program at the University of Southern Indiana offers a BFA in Art, with concentrations in graphic design, illustration, interactive media, photography or studio. Students can also earn a BA/BS in Art with emphasis in Art History, Art Education, or one of the concentration areas mentioned previously.
