Clinical Adjunct Instructor, Practical Nursing

Title:                           Adjunct Instructor, Practical Nursing, 12 month

Classification:            Part-Time

Office Location:          TCAT- McMinnville, 241 Vo Tech Dr., McMinnville, TN 37110

Hours:                        6:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday and Wednesday, or as needed to fulfill duties of the position.

Salary:                        $35.00 per hour

Supervises:                N/A

Reports to:                 Nursing coordinator

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in nursing.
  • Must hold an active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience in the nursing field within the last 5 years.
  • Minimum of three (3) years current clinical nursing experience.
  • High level skills in oral and written communication;
  • Evidence of strong work ethic as it relates to timeliness of reporting, oversight of multiple on-going projects, and the ability to work with others;
  • Proficient computer skills;
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the students, public, and co-workers; to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions; and
  • Possess a valid TN driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience, especially in a postsecondary setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited institution.

General Duties:

The part-time Clinical Adjunct is responsible for teaching and supervision of nursing students in on-campus classroom/lab and off-campus clinical settings; evaluating and advising students; maintaining records and completing reports; participating in the development of the program, and other assigned duties. This position reports to the Health Careers Coordinator. This part-time position will be for two 11-hour clinical days per week, Mondays and Wednesday, from 6:30 Am until 6:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities – Essential Job Functions

The Clinical Adjunct Instructor is responsible for performing the following duties: 

    • Demonstrate a commitment to student success.
    • Teach skills appropriate to the occupational area that will prepare students to become an economic asset.
    • Guide students in selection, perception, and performance of suitable learning activities.
    • Organize class time effectively and efficiently in order that learning activities can be accomplished.
    • Start and end class at designated time.
    • Utilize individual and/or group instructional procedures appropriate to the requirements of the assigned activities and the students’ needs.
    • Supervise student conduct to ensure that the potentially hazardous clinics/labs/classrooms provide an orderly environment conducive to productivity.
    • Maintain a well-organized, safe, and clean clinic and/or classroom.
    • Advise students of the importance of safety in relation to machinery, tools, and equipment.
    • Investigate and make a full report on every accident on the day the accident occurs, using the “Preliminary Accident Report Form.”
    • Be responsible for equipment, tools, and supplies assigned to clinic and/or classroom.
    • Maintain an inventory of equipment, controls storage, repair, and usage of materials to minimize loss or abuse.
    • Keep and share with students continuously updated records of attendance and competencies acquired during their enrollment.
    • Evaluate each student’s progress at multiple intervals during each trimester and complete permanent records.
    • Assist, as directed by administration, in follow-up evaluations of graduates and their programs.
    • Attend and participate in various school functions such as graduation, open houses, and other functions as assigned by the Academic Coordinator.
    • Meet deadlines of yearly mandated training.
    • Perform other duties directly related to career and technical education as assigned by the Nursing Coordinator.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions (ADA REQUIREMENTS)

Walking, climbing, bending, and stooping. Work performed in office, testing center and classroom environments. Position requires the use of a computer.

Sedentary Work – Walking or standing to a significant degree; sitting for brief periods of time; be able to bend and stoop; use body members (arms, hands, fingers).

SALARY: $35.00 per hour

Background checks will be completed on all new hires. Instructors will be asked to sign a background release authorizing TCAT- McMinnville to complete a background check which will include the following: Sex Offender Registry, County Criminal &Federal Criminal.
